Heroes' square

Full description
Hero's Square is a tribute to Hungary’s national identity and one of the city's main landmarks.
It was built for the 1896 Millennium celebrations when Hungary celebrated the 1000th anniversary of its ancestors finding a place to settle down in the Carpathian Basin. The two colonnades display 14 emblematic figures from Hungarian history and form a semi-circle around the centrepiece column, which is surrounded by the seven original hungarian chieftains and topped by a statue of Archangel Gabriel.
In front of the monument lays the Memorial Stone of Heroes, dedicated to the memory of the heroes who gave their lives to the freedom of hungarian people and their national independence throughout history.

Located in the City Park and at the beginning of Andrássy Street, the square is a well situated landmark to visit during a larger walk around the city.
